Political Quotes

Despite my undergraduate background in History and Political Science, I am not exactly enamoured with politics because often, the way we do things in a political sense in this country can sometimes be a long way from what one is taught inside the classroom.

I have written political pieces before but these were on certain events that caught my imagination. This piece will be different because there is bit of satire, a bit of sarcasm and also quite a hefty dose of personal philosophizing in the following quotes.

You may come to the conclusion after reading some quotes that I am not an admirer of the current President. That is not necessarily true. I simply have not really made up my mind about him.

ON THE RH BILL

“Forget the RH Bill. The best contraceptive is still a job.”

“The more the Church whines about the RH Bill, the more it shouts to the world its loss of influence on the marital bed.”

“The PCSO is the broom that has swept the RH Bill under the carpet.”

“It’s now Same Old National Ailments.”

“If unsure what to say going forward, point finger backwards.”

ON THE COTABATO FLOODS

“Hyacinths and rains are always blamed, not those who think summer will never go away.”

ON DEVELOPMENT PLANS

“In a perfect world, these are presented at the beginning, not a year after the beginning.”

“Development builds on what has already been accomplished, not starting all over from the ground.”

ON MIRIAM SANTIAGO’S RENEWAL OF VOWS

“Whatever their colour, whatever their party, they came, they mingled, they sheathed their knives and admired the gloss on each other’s coat of plastic.” (Inspired by Noli de Castro’s comment on TV Patrol.)

ON THE TAWID SA PASADA PROGRAM

“Walâ namang load eh!”

“So the jeepney driver got his card. What about the office employee whose tax payments made funds available for the program to begin with?”

ON NBI CLEARANCES

“Pumila to death!”

ON SECOND-HAND SPORTS CARS

“It is not a luxury vehicle. It is a getaway car in case of People Power.”
